Wayanad is a serene, rural region with a sparse population. Its extensive power lines traverse mountainous terrain, making them vulnerable to damage and prolonged outages due to natural elements. Rubaiyat addresses this challenge with an on-premise solar power system that ensures 24-hour backup while reducing the property’s carbon footprint by feeding surplus energy back to the Kerala State Electricity Board grid. The living spaces are thoughtfully designed to maximize natural light and cross ventilation, allowing residents to enjoy Wayanad’s naturally pleasant climate without relying on energy-intensive air conditioners.

Power Management in Pictures

Smart panels monitor the power generated, consumed, and sent back to the grid, ensuring efficient energy management.

A 5.5 kW on-grid system feeds power back into the utility grid.

A 3 kW off-grid system supplies backup power to both buildings.

A significant power consumer is the motor used to pump water from the wells to the overhead tanks.

High ceilings and cross ventilation maintain a comfortable indoor environment without the need for air conditioning.

Floor to ceiling windows bring in fresh air and natural light.

Only low-wattage LED lights and BLDC motor ceiling fans are used to ensure energy efficiency.

The highest power consumption comes from the hot water heaters in the bathrooms, as solar water heaters are not feasible due to the extended piping runs.
