Carbon Smart
Working with what you have.
A land of many strengths, and an uncertain future
Wayanad, located in the Western Ghats of southwestern India, is a biodiversity treasure celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes and abundant cash crops like coffee, pepper, and cardamom. Wayanad exemplifies the success of Kerala's renowned local governance through panchayats.
But it is facing the twin demographic and climate crises. Extreme weather events like floods and landslides (including the devastating 2024 landslides) lead to loss of homes, crops, and livelihoods. Rampant emigration of young people
A carbon smart approach
Rubaiyat is a homestead designed to integrate sustainable practices in agro-forestry, water and energy management, and hospitality, contributing to a broader movement addressing the climate and demographic challenges in Wayanad. It aims to be a test case for similarly sized properties, fostering local employment and encouraging reverse migration. By creating meaningful job opportunities and sustainable practices, we seek to be a part of the effort to revitalise the region.
